Heartland Corterra: The most modern production fifth wheel you've ever seen

The last thing I’d ever expect to highlight on RV Envy is a rear living fifth wheel - simply because this layout has been around for decades, and we typically try to highlight the new and interesting floor plans coming out of Elkhart. But the interior design of the all-new Corterra is what makes this RV a standout.

First, some backstory…

Heartland, the makes of the brand new Corterra line of fifth wheels, have an ongoing partnership with Cortni Armstrong, better known as “The Flipping Nomad”, who originally gained notoriety in renovating fifth wheels into what looks like modern luxury homes.

One of her most popular creations was the “Ultimate Montana”. Here’s a shot of the kitchen in her Montana. You’ll already start to see design cues borrowed from this Montana kitchen in the new Corterra line.

Over the last decade, RV makers have slowly given up their love of beige and brown in lieu of the whiter and brighter, and the modern farmhouse style. Even so, RV brands only just caught on to the tail end of the trend. So what’s next?

Enter the Heartland Corterra.

The Corterra 3.0 brings a minimalist feel with wood paneling, sexy black finishes, luxe residential leather couches with hidden cup holders and USB ports, and can we talk about the round mirror and backlight in the bathroom?!

There’s no doubt this was at least partially inspired by The Flipping Nomad’s work, and I’m not mad about it.

Let’s take a look inside.

A hidden pantry behind the TV

Plus the shelf on the inside of the door is a great place to hook up a satellite box or a game console where they won’t interfere with the aesthetic in the living area.

Form over function: A gorgeous, backlit coffee & beverage bar

There’s plenty of space for coffee, drinks, and even a hanging rack for wine glasses. Just don’t forget to store them in a safe place when you hit the road! And of course anything else on the upper shelves will need to find a new home when in transit, something worth considering if you’re traveling a lot.

Hidden cupholders and chargers

Extend the arms of the couches when you need a charge or space for your drink, then stow them away when not needed to retain that residential feel.

Modern lighting: two thumbs up

LED strip lighting across the ceiling, oversized puck lighting in the slide out, and hanging lights above the kitchen island put this RV into the top contender of best lighting I’ve ever seen in a fifth wheel. (Just keep in mind that those hanging pendant lights may be at risk of breaking when traveling on rough roads. Again keep in mind: form over function.)

Rear living with burnt orange couches and seamless storage above

The TV faces the couch on the left, but if you’re trying to watch a movie with guests or family on the other couch, at least the pantry door with the TV on it can be pivoted for a better viewing angle.

The largest front window in the industry (for now)

Plus plenty of bedroom storage and a nightstand that’s actually large enough for a phone, a cup of water, and a book! (Sadly there’s only one nightstand, so you might have to fight over it.)

Wood paneling, a backlit mirror, and plenty of counter space? All the heart eyes.
